Noël Carroll

NOËL CARROLL is Monroe C. Beardsley Professor of the Philosophy of Art at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and he is the immediate past president of the American Society for Aesthetics. His books include Beyond Aesthetics, The Philosophy of Horror, A Philosophy of Mass Art, Interpreting the Moving Image, and Philosophy of Art: A Contemporary Introduction.

He was the screenwriter for the documentary video The Last Conversation: Eisenstein’s Carmen Ballet and for several PBS specials: Dancing with the Camera, Film as Collage, Sexual Poetics: New Films by Women, and Film as Play. His current project is a book on the philosophy of dance.
